Defining Community Value: Providence Orlando Makes Strides Against Breast Cancer All Year Long

Providence Booby Brigade

Davenport, Fla (December 5, 2014) — What started as a way to honor the memory of a good friend by those in her neighborhood book club has turned into over $26,000 donated to breast cancer awareness and prevention this year alone. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, a division of the American Cancer Society, is the recipient of all monies raised by the Providence Golf and Country Club Community fundraising team, also known as the Booby Brigade.

Providence is situated just southwest of Orlando in a naturally beautiful Central Florida countryside setting. This luxury gated community is comprised of many individual neighborhoods planned by its main developer, ABD Development, along with other nationally recognized builders including Lennar, Park Square, D.R. Horton, Richmond American, and Contempo. This idyllic golfer’s dream community in Polk County features a Michael Dasher designed golf course and a plentitude of active amenities.

The Providence team began its fundraising efforts in 2012 and successfully raised $5000 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The following year, the Brigade came up with the idea to create a fundraising calendar, and this resulted in over $15,000 generated, which was an amazing accomplishment. Momentum began to build way before the designated breast cancer awareness month of October for the 2014 contribution, and will continue to the end of the year even though the group has already exceeded expectations yet again.

The breakdown of money raised to date this year includes $4396 from the Pink Party auction and dinner, $6808 from the 2nd Annual Pink Classic golf outing, and over $5000 so far from sales of the 2015 calendar. Miscellaneous additional fundraisers have kept residents busy and involved, such as a card making class, homemade soap sale, wine tasting, community yard sale, bake sale, and ice cream social. Gift wrapping services began on Black Friday and will continue until Christmas.

“ABD Development has been proud to see this community driven effort grow and we make a point to be among the first to sign up when the organizers are looking for sponsors,” says Yuval Botansky, President of ABD. “All I can say is that I am not sure how the Providence team is going to top 2014, but I am quite sure they will surpass these numbers in 2015!” Calendars are still available for sale at the residents’ clubhouse, Providence welcome center, or by calling 863-420-9100.
